In case you missed it, the first installation (out of four - or possibly more) of the last story arc of Jack is now posted on Mr. Hopkins' FurAffinity account.
The last time I read this comic was back in 2017, and it helped me get through a very difficult time in my life and recover from my suicide attempt the year before (I feel like this comic is part of why I never tried again) I love that I have found it again and that it will be continued eventually. Thanks Dave
Man that was a ride. I figured the whole thing was still the test when they were talking about the sword and Reck said he stab himself with it to destroy the sword.
But the point is more in seeing if Kyle will make the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good and I like how the ending played out, using color to show the test ending and our transition back to reality.
The art was also nice. Hard to really give a strong critique though I've been reading JACK since about 2004 and David's art style has grown on me a lot. Seeing the same characters in a different art style is jarring, whether it's a guest artist here or see Max Blackrabbit's way of drawing Zig Zag after reading Sabrina Online for so many years (Yes, i know Zig belongs to Max but I'm used to her in Eric's style).
All that said I like the style used here.it started growing on me by the end.
I won't say how old I was when I started reading Jack, but I will say that it was still relatively new and I was much, much too young to be reading it. It was... A formative experience, to say the least.
I'm so glad I decided to seek it out again and read it front to back and see the way it evolved. Some of the stories touched me quite deeply, even some of the ones I'd seen before and knew the outcome of.
It's been great to see the project evolve and mature over the decades (!!) and I'm happy to see the story continued and other artists getting featured along the way.
Despite what some *might* call gratuitous sex and violence (phooey), there has always been a wonderful earnestness and purity to these stories. It serves as a reminder that we are all here just doing our best.
So with that in mind, as much as I am excited for the story to continue, patience is a virtue.
;)
It's been this long, I'll wait another eternity.
Thank you for the truly unnerving childhood memories.
Comments:
I do hope it ends up being finished someday; it was one of the early webcomics I followed.

(check the main gallery for a couple of funny, short, non-Jack comics, Fidget's 9 Lives and Welcome To The Basement)
Looking forward to seeing the final arc when it is complete
Bless you Darkwing, you are awesome
